Welcome to the eLearning and Academic Qualifications Pilot

Facilitating cross-border academic services

The pilot will build upon the outcomes of the STORK project in order to provide a set of academic services that can be used by citizens, government and companies. These cross-border academic services, involving the exchange of identity attributes, will facilitate the use of academic information by users, government and private organizations, while also attempting to demonstrate the possibility of integrating other existing services concerned with the verification of certificates acquired in training courses other than those given by the Academia.

The role played by academic institutions in STORK 2.0 will be improved by adding the capability to provide identity attributes (AP). Yet, the stakeholders involved will not be limited to the academic world, but will also include legal entities from the private sector that will be able to access academic attributes that are of value to them to accomplish their goals.

USE CASES

Advanced cross - border eLearning environments

Two different services are offered:

  • Shared eLearning environment for joint degrees: the users of this service will be students registered in the course at the participating Universities, and contents will be distributed among participating universities.
  • eSurvey: this is a service for designing and performing cross-border opinion surveys that target specific groups of individuals in different MS (students, professors, experts, etc.). The users of these services will be researchers or companies when it comes to setting up the enquiry, and members of the academic community (students, professors or experts from different MS) to answer them.

Academic Attribute Verification for Job Qualification / Selection

The services designed will provide proof of required qualifications for different purposes: generic, selection for a job, and official qualification for a job in MS that requires that qualification.

Goals of the pilot

The pilot will:

  • Contribute to the development, configuration and organization of higher education elearning systems to go beyond national boundaries and converge as promoted by the European Higher Education Area (EHEA);
  • Facilitate the adoption and wider take-up of eID by the academic community, a key set of actors that can make a significant contribution to the dissemination and future use of electronic credentials.
  • Involve the private sector in the use of academic information by providing the means to use it for their own purposes (such as job qualification / selection) and, in order to comply with the prescriptions of the Services Directive, to enable proof of required qualifications and specifications to be carried out online.

User Groups

The user groups are composed of graduates, alumni, students, professors and staff with a valid eID provided by Member States and with an academic profile stored at one of the universities involved.

Benefits

The pilot will:

  • Reduce the burden of administrative tasks derived from the mobility of students among academic institutions from different countries.
  • Allow academic data to be made accessible to both private and public institutions while ensuring that citizens’ rights are safeguarded.
